How to play Block 89

The goal is the classic one: complete horizontal lines, watch them vanish, keep the stack from reaching the top. Two minutes of rules, a lifetime of "one more game".

The two tubes

This is the twist that makes Block 89 its own game. Pieces do not appear at the top centre. They slide in horizontally, through two tubes in the top corners, strictly alternating: left, right, left, right. While a piece is still inside its tube it travels on rails toward the middle and ignores you; the moment it clears the tube, it is yours to steer. The game only ends when a tube mouth is blocked, and it will try the other tube first.

Controls

• Touch: four round buttons. Green moves left, yellow drops faster, red moves right, blue rotates. Hold a button and it auto-repeats.
• Keyboard (in the browser version): arrow keys move, Space or the up arrow rotates, P pauses, M toggles sound, D toggles dark mode.

Shapes, lines and levels

There are ten shapes, from a lone dot to a bar of four, each with its own dither pattern so the stack stays readable. The field is 16 by 16. Clearing lines scores points and fills the level meter; every level asks for more lines than the one before and moves the blocks a little faster, tuned so the challenge grows with your skill across 20 levels. The pace starts gentle and never becomes unfair.
