High score tips for Block 89

Block 89 keeps one high score, on your device, and it does not let you reset it. Here is how to make that number embarrassing for everyone else.

The bonus is cubic. Exploit it.

A cleared drop pays 50 + level × lines³. The cube is the whole strategy: at level 9, one line pays 59 points but four lines at once pay 626. Clearing four lines separately: 236. Banking a deep well for a bar of four more than doubles your income. Greed is correct, until the stack argues otherwise.

Respect the tubes

Pieces alternate strictly between the top corners, and you cannot steer a piece until it leaves its tube. So keep both corner columns low: a tall tower under a tube mouth shortens your reaction window on that side, and a blocked tube is how the game ends. Left, right, left, right; plan two pieces ahead, not one.

Lean on the mercy system

When your stack climbs past halfway, the game quietly starts dealing smaller pieces: under pressure the lone dot turns up about five times as often, the bar of two three times. That is your recovery budget. When you are in trouble, stop hunting the big clear: flatten greedily with the small pieces, get back under the halfway line, then resume banking.
